But in practice it was maddening to make the midi and maddening to deal with the melodic form as well. I resorted to multiple runs through pedals to try and lofi soften the feel of it. Visually I chatted to Jean-Baptiste Friquet, who specialises in data moshing amongst other things, and we decided to tell the story of descent into madness on a global scale as a spreading datamosh infection. Jean-Baptiste Friquet For My Mind Is Slipping, created for Max Cooper, my creative process is rooted in the deliberate destruction of reality through computational means. By altering the structure of pixels through video compression algorithms, I introduce a quiet disturbance — the glitch slipping into the image like a subtle tremor beneath the surface. It spreads through the world not as a symbol of death, but as a catalyst for transformation. It enters a world where the mind has grown sleepy - softened by routine, lulled by repetition. As reality drifts into slumber, the glitch becomes an awakening force. It gently disrupts our numbness, stirring the mind in the face of everyday threats and invisible anxieties. It invites doubt, feeling, and self-questioning - not to destroy, but to evolve. To me, the glitch is colour, and colour is life - an imperfect beauty that reminds us that awakening, however unsettling, is the first act of becoming more human."
