#garbage #1crush #shirleymanson #90s This is a 30th Anniversary music video I made for “#1 Crush”. I’m an LA-based visual effects artist and Garbage fan. I intended to make this video look as if it were released in the same year as the song. I began to build and animate this project as a full CGI animation in 2002, but there weren't enough resources to justify building and animating a 5 minute video without pay, so I abandoned it, that is, until AI video became available to artists over the past year. Now that I have this technology, I was able to complete everything, including the CG animation, in exactly a month. This haunting song was reportedly first recorded during Garbage’s debut album in 1995 as a B-side, which became the hit song for Baz Luhrmann’s “Romeo + Juliet” soundtrack. As good as the song is, a music video was never made. I felt this was an artistic injustice. The song inspired these visuals in my mind. The video for, “Push It” by Andrea Giacobbe, cost the band $750,000 in 1997 money ($1.5 Million in 2025). This video cost me closer to $750 in 2025. In today’s music industry climate, real music videos have very little budget.
