Giuseppe Ottaviani and John O’Callaghan, two towering titans of the trance scene, are joining forces to deliver the official anthem for the Dreamstate SoCal festival taking place this month. Ahead of the duo’s scheduled back-to-back performance at the annual gathering, their new collab “Cloudsurfer” lands on Dreamstate Records in requisite anthemic fashion.
Italy’s treasured trance export Giuseppe Ottaviani forms an expert pairing with Irish powerhouse John O’Callaghan, culminating into their stunning acid-flecked collaboration “Cloudsurfer (A Dreamstate Anthem),” which serves to get the dancefloor primed for the upcoming festival.
Marrying their two styles perfectly, the peak-time track brings techno menace and trance euphoria in equal measures. “Cloudsurfer” launches from a hypnotic opening blast of snarling acid riffs into uplifting trance afterglow, with its pounding kick and driving rhythms giving life to a festival anthem that's worthy of its soundtracking status.
Both Giuseppe Ottaviani and John O’Callaghan confirm that they leapt at the chance to collaborate for the Dreamstate SoCal 2023 official anthem, serving to further heighten the hype levels for the upcoming b2b set they have planned for the festival later this month.
“Giuseppe and I have been friends and colleagues for many years, so the opportunity to create the Dreamstate 2023 anthem together was something that we both took very seriously,” says John O’Callaghan.
“When someone says, ‘Do you want to collab with Giuseppe Ottaviani’, it’s like asking, ‘Do you want to get in the kitchen with Gordon Ramsay?’ Of course, you bloody do!” he laughs.
“We wanted to create an anthem that was both massive in terms of its melody, as well as dynamic and tech-driven in terms of its groove; plus, of course, sporting a huge mainstage energy. We feel it’s an anthem worthy of our loyal Dreamstate following, and we can hold our hands on our hearts and say, ‘job done.’ Only one question remains... Where’s the lamb sauce?!”
Similarly, Giuseppe Ottaviani says he and O’Callaghan just knew they had to create something special in the studio together to mark the occasion of their back-to-back set.
“When John O’Callaghan and I decided to play together at Dreamstate SoCal, we knew instantly that we had to jump into the studio to try and create something special and new for our first ever back-to-back set. And we’ve made something quite unique!
“‘Cloudsurfer’ is an anthem that perfectly represents both our sounds,” he continues. “It’s techy, melodic, up-tempo and high energy. We know it’s exactly what Dreamers expect, so you won’t be disappointed!
