about we are friends:
For the 10th edition of the we are friends series, mau5trap takes a different turn. In lieu of featuring up-and coming artists, the focus shifts towards an incredible line-up of artists from the label’s history. Of course, there is mau5trap’s label head deadmau5 who offers “Arguru 2k19,” a new version of this classic cut from his third album random album title.
Other highlights include: Wolfgang Gartner—deadmau5 collaborator on tracks like “Animal Rights,” “Channel 42” and most recent “Channel 43” with “Cosa Nostra”; A VIP remake of Matt Lange’s “Morbidly Obese”; From deadmau5 2016 album W:/2016ALBUM/, “Let Go” guest Grabbitz with “Fly On The Wall”; Noisia who appears as Zonderling with “Spanned”; And Mr. Bill who teams with M4NDY with “Ride Or Die.” The full track listing follows below.
Consistently forward thinking, we are friends is known for mau5trap’s special selection of exciting tracks, curation, and artist launch pad over the years. Past we are friends compilations featured promising up-and-comers and budding talents who graduated to become some of the label’s most successful acts such as REZZ, i_o, No Mana, ATTLAS and more.
about mau5trap:
Over a decade since its formation, mau5trap -- the independent record label founded by groundbreaking electronic music producer deadmau5 -- has become a bastion for trailblazing and genre-defying artists. Casting a palpable influence over the genre, Mixmag readers voted mau5trap among the “Top 50 Labels of the Decade”, placing it in the Top 10; since then, the imprint has been supported by dance music magnates Billboard, DJ Mag, Forbes, Insomniac, and The EDM Network. More recently, mau5trap has maneuvered toward live events boasting curated stage takeovers at the world’s biggest electronic dance music events like Ultra Music Festival, Creamfields, EDC, and beyond.
The multi-genre platform has extensively served as an authoritative platform for dance music heavyweights such as Skrillex, Feed Me, Zedd, Noisia, Dillon Francis, Chris Lake, and Madeon; a combination of dark, forceful techno and complex, electro sounds, the label acts as a hotbed for rising talent such as REZZ, Getter, i_o, ATTLAS, No Mana, Matt Lange, and others alike. Welcome to the horde.
Karasso and Gellero have made serious inroads in their short time releasing music, and they team up for the first time on ‘Drop It Low’, which comes via Generation Smash. Karasso is a regular to Generation Smash, with standout releases such as ‘Heat It Up’ and ‘Rock Right Now’ dropping via the Smash The House sublabel, and his debut collab with Gellero highlights the pair’s organic synergy in the studio.
The intro ticks ‘Drop It Low’ along with unbelievable swagger, as drums and percussion build alongside the vocal. Synthesized elements are added gradually as the track builds. The beat has a tribal feel, with groovy percussion and synth stabs that make ‘Drop It Low’ undeniably danceable. Brass elements and interesting twists enter the fray in the main break, before the track drops again, harder than ever.
Karrasso and Gellero have resolved to delve deep into production during recent times, in turn grabbing the attention of key tastemakers, including label heads Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike, Afrojack, David Guetta and Don Diablo. ‘Drop It Low’ is another fine example of both artists levelling up in the studio, and the clearest sign yet that both are on a path to success. Grab your copy of ‘Drop It Low’, out 12th February via Generation Smash!

Spanish
duo Dub Elements are certainly no strangers to the world of drum &
bass. With releases on nearly every major label, consistent support from
industry tastemakers ranging from Spor to Excision, and over a decade
experience in not just production but events all over the world, Antonio
Cano & Jose Luis Vazquez have known nothing but success over the
years. Long-time friends of Futurebound and the Viper family, their
debut release ‘Real Dogs’ on 2016’s Summer Slammers compilation was met
with critical acclaim, hotly followed with singles like ‘Heartbeat’,
‘Bad Guy’, ‘Black Fog’, and many more, all living up to the Dub Elements
hype.
Now, 2021 will see the release of a brand new EP from the Spanish
madmen, and it goes by the name of Mindshaker. Packed with four brand
new tracks, Dub Elements deliver the gritty and raw drum & bass
they’ve become known for over the years, masterfully blending neurofunk
with dancefloor energy that has found its perfect home on Viper.
Opening track ‘Raw’ delivers pure, unadulterated filth, beckoning the
gnarliest of bass faces with every beat. The title track ‘Mindshaker’ is
full of classic wobbles and rumbling basslines, accompanied by familiar
MC bars that instantly transport us deep in the rave. The cleverly
titled ‘Neofunk’ is a refreshing take on the genre, full of juxtaposed
highs and lows and a frenzied energy that is as creative as it is
chaotic. Last but not least, ‘Vacuum’ shows us Dub Element’s softer
side… but not for long. An elegant opening lures you in before Dub
Elements deliver a decimating dose of dirty drops with a classic jungle
twist that makes it a sure standout on the EP.
Carnal rave energy wrapped up in a neat four-track package, Mindshaker
is an EP you won’t want to sleep on, and a phenomenal addition to the
ever-growing Viper catalogue, not to mention a strong indication of
what’s in store for the label in 2021.
